SQL Editor

The SQL Editor is an interface to write and run SQL queries on the data warehouse. 5X supports SQL Editor integration for Snowflake and Google BigQuery.

Users can work on multiple workspaces to streamline their workflow and perform SQL queries required to manage their Snowflake and Google BigQuery data. The SQL Editor is built with integrated features to write complex queries and manage worksheets and databases to enhance productivity and query optimization.

You can access the SQL Editor by navigating to Snowflake or the Google BigQuery vendor from 5X Operate. Sign into your Snowflake (or, Google BigQuery) account to access the editor.

Ensure you have access permissions enabled on Team.

The SQL Editor interface is built into the following components:

  1. Worksheet: The Editor displays the worksheets on your current window. You can work on multiple worksheets and add a blank worksheet.

  2. Left navigation bar: Once you connect the SQL editor to the warehouse vendor, your warehouse databases are updated on the editor. The left navigation bar includes,

    • Databases: Manage databases, schemas, tables, and views to search, manage and perform actions on the files. The Databases tab also shows cell content for your table and its metadata when you click on a file.

    • Folders: You can create folders to group worksheets and data queries as required.

  3. Editor: Write and run SQL queries on the editor. The editor shows your development environment and warehouse connection details on the top left. You can also limit search queries, format query syntax and run queries in bulk.

  4. Results panel: Users can check query results, preview table data, and download results.

Features

The SQL editor supports the following features:

    • Click the three-dot menu next to the table to perform table operations.

  2. Folders: You can manage drafts and files in folders by adding a new folder, and searching and performing folder actions from the three-dot menu next to the file. Users can rename, duplicate, delete, or move the file to an existing or new folder.

  3. Editor: The editor supports the standard SQL command line.

    • Connection details: Select the connection details on top of the editor to update the warehouse.

  • Autocomplete suggestions: The editor auto-suggests lists of syntax constructs and templates when you type double underscores (__).

  1. Result panel: The Results tab shows your script result and the total rows computed in seconds. You can also download the script result in CSV format. The Preview data tab shows the sample data of the table.

Both the tabs in the result pane support lazy loading, copying multiple rows and filtering tables by their column.
